Police Chief Frank Edwards III reports that on Friday, July 23, the Independence Police Department, assisted by the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office, is investigating a case where a 21-year-old, black male, was found to be unresponsive in a ditch near the roadway on Kemp Street in Independence.

On July 25, at approximately 2:20 pm, the victim, Jamins Robinson of Independence, died as a result of his injuries. The Coroner’s Office spokesperson stated the victim’s death resulted from a subdural hemorrhage following a closed head injury. The cause of the head injury is undetermined and remains under investigation, however the spokesperson noted that the victim’s injuries were superficial abrasions of the type consistent with being struck by a slow moving vehicle.

The Independence Police Department is asking anyone having information regarding the events that took place at approximately 10:50 p.m. on July 23, on Kemp Street in Independence, to call Crime Stoppers at 800-554-5245 or Detective Chris Chappell at 320-7777.
