Two Arrested in Beating; victim in critical condition

HAMMOND – Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards reports the arrest of two white males in the brutal beating of a 37 year old Hammond man which occurred in the evening hours of Sunday July 25, 2010.

The investigation revealed that the victim and several subjects were drinking beer at a residence on Pumpkin Center Rd. At some point, the subjects gave the victim money to go purchase more alcohol. The subjects then became angry when the victim denied receiving the money. In turn, the subjects brutally beat and kicked the suspect while inside of the residence. It is suspected that the victim was also struck in head with a baseball bat which was recovered from the scene.

The victim is currently in the ICU at a local hospital. He is reported to be in critical condition with massive injuries to the head.

Arrested in this brutal beating were Ricky Mandella, 17 W/M of Hardy St. in Amite and Roy Lee O’Neill, 18 W/M of Pumpkin Center Rd. in Hammond. Both subjects are charged with attempted second degree murder.
