Tangipahoa Parish President Gordon Burgess announced today that the Parish has received the contract from the Louisiana Division of Administration-Disaster Recovery Unit, for $5,512,324 of Louisiana Recovery Authority (LRA) funding. The funds are targeted to help the parish recover from the impact of recent hurricanes. The funds will be used for parish projects that are awaiting final approval. They include: the building of an emergency supplies warehouse, widening of Club Deluxe Road, drainage improvements at Chapapeela Creek bridge, homeowner housing repair, sewerage treatment plant improvements, the construction of an Environmental Services Building, and other projects. A detailed application must be submitted for each project and all environmental clearance requirements must be met before final approval will be granted.
Mr. Burgess expects these projects to move forward this year as the total funding for each project is approved.
The Parish is also pursuing additional funding for road safety projects, the proposed new central office and library in Amite, the conversion of the vacated state welfare office in Amite to a juvenile and drug court for the 21st Judicial District, further improvements to the Parish Courthouse, improvements to the Florida Parishes Arena/Events Center; a new emergency communications tower; improvements to the Animal Shelter in Hammond, assistance with Port Manchac building and rail projects, housing assistance for the homeless, energy efficiency and wind strengthening for public buildings, and project assistance to the towns in the Parish for projects they requested. Proposals and applications for all of these projects have been developed through Parish Administration.
