Darrell Ranton, 44, underwent emergency surgery, police said.
At about 11:30 p.m., the police department received a call reporting a man down in the street near Club Diamond. The caller was uncertain whether the man had been shot or stabbed.
Officers found Ranton down on Olivia Street. He had been stabbed in the chest and had a laceration over the right eye area, police said.
He was transported to Acadian Medical Center, then moved to another area hospital, where heightened security precautions are in effect, police reported
Investigation continues into what led to the stabbing and who was involved.
