Two Rayville men have been arrested for attempted murder.

Rayville Police Chief Willie Robinson said the arrest followed a complaint that a man had been severely beaten and left behind a local church. RPD officers Czyz Williams and Brad Edgeworth responded to the call at 1:33 a.m. April 1, finding the beating victim covered in his own blood and still in his van. He was transported to Richardson Medical Center by ambulance and later airlifted to Shreveport.

“Shortly after, myself and Investigator Tamario Turner arrived on the scene,” Robinson said. “It appeared the victim had been driven there and left. While investigating the incident, it was learned that the altercation had taken place at 314 Cotton Street in Rayville.”

Robinson said his officers and deputies from the Richland Parish Sheriff’s Office went to 314 Cotton St., where they arrested the first suspect, 22-year-old Antonio Washington, who was charged with trespassing and attempted second degree murder. He was booked into the Richland Parish Detention Center under $100,000 bond.

Officers also learned that his brother, Darren Washington, 24, had fled the scene. An arrest warrant was issued and the second man was captured and booked into the detention center on April 2. He also was charged with trespassing and attempted second degree murder. His bond was set at $250,000.

Robinson said he wanted to commend his officers for their quick response and efforts made to apprehend the suspects in this case.
